Queen Esther risked her life by approaching King Xerxes without being summoned — an act punishable by death — in order to reveal Haman's plot to destroy the Jewish people. Her cousin Mordecai had urged her with the famous words, "Who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?"

Esther could have stayed silent. She was safe inside the palace. No one would have blamed her for protecting herself. But Mordecai's words pierced through her fear: "for such a time as this."

Esther realized that her position was not a privilege to be protected — it was a purpose to be fulfilled. Her comfort was never the point. Her calling was.
