The Answer
The prophet Nathan confronted David by telling him a parable about a rich man who stole a poor man's only lamb. When David burned with anger at the injustice, Nathan said the famous words: "You are the man."
"Then Nathan said to David, 'You are the man!'"
— 2 Samuel 12:7
Today's Devotion
✦Nathan did something extraordinarily brave — he told the most powerful man in Israel the truth he did not want to hear. And he did it with wisdom, not just courage. He led with a story, not an accusation. He let David's own conscience do the work before revealing the mirror.
We all need a Nathan in our lives. Someone who loves us enough to speak the hard truth. Someone who refuses to let us hide in our blind spots. And we need to be brave enough to receive it when it comes.
Is there a truth you have been avoiding? A conversation you have been postponing? Sometimes the most loving thing someone can do for us is hold up a mirror. And sometimes the bravest thing we can do is look.
