How many times did Peter deny knowing Jesus?

The Answer

On the night Jesus was arrested, Peter denied knowing Him three times — exactly as Jesus had predicted. After the rooster crowed, Peter remembered Jesus' words and wept bitterly.

Peter did not fail because he lacked love for Jesus. He failed because he was afraid. Fear and love can live in the same heart, and on that terrible night, fear won.

But here is what matters: the story did not end at the rooster's crow. After the resurrection, Jesus sought Peter out specifically. He cooked him breakfast on the beach. He asked him three times — once for each denial — "Do you love me?" And with each answer, Jesus restored him.
