Luke was a physician and the only Gentile (non-Jewish) author of a New Testament book. His medical background is reflected in the detailed and compassionate way he recorded events, particularly healings and the humanity of Jesus.

God chose a doctor to write the most detailed account of Jesus' interactions with the sick, the marginalized, and the suffering. Luke noticed things others missed — the bleeding woman in the crowd, the widow at Nain, the desperation in a leper's voice. His trained eye for human suffering became the lens through which he told the story of a healing Savior.
