On which day of creation did God make the sun, moon, and stars?

The Answer
Although God created light on the first day, the sun, moon, and stars were not made until the fourth day. Genesis says God made two great lights — the greater to govern the day and the lesser to govern the night — and He also made the stars. This ordering reminds us that light itself flows from God before it ever flows from the sun.
"God made two great lights — the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars."
— Genesis 1:16
Today's Devotion
✦It is easy to skim past the strangeness of this detail: light existed for three days before the sun did. The ancient world worshiped the sun as a god, but Genesis quietly puts it in its place — it is a lamp, not a lord. It was made, hung, and assigned a job.
We still confuse the lamp with the source. We treat a paycheck, a relationship, or our own strength as the thing our life depends on. But everything that shines in your life is borrowed light, and the Source stands behind it all.
Today, thank God not just for His gifts but for Himself. The gifts govern seasons; the Giver holds them all.
