The Answer
Thomas was absent when the risen Jesus first appeared to the disciples, and he declared he would not believe without seeing and touching the nail marks himself. A week later, Jesus appeared again and invited Thomas to do exactly that. Thomas responded with one of the greatest confessions in Scripture: 'My Lord and my God!'
"Then Jesus told him, 'Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.'"
— John 20:29
Today's Devotion
✦History remembers him as 'Doubting Thomas,' but look at how Jesus treated his doubt. He did not shame Thomas or exclude him. He came back — specifically for him — and offered exactly the evidence Thomas said he needed.
Doubt is not the opposite of faith; often it is faith asking honest questions. Thomas' skepticism, once answered, produced the boldest declaration of Jesus' identity in the Gospels. Church tradition holds that he carried that faith all the way to India.
If you are wrestling with questions today, bring them to Jesus rather than letting them drive you from Him. He is not fragile, and He is not offended. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed — that blessing is for you.
