The Answer
The first of the ten plagues struck the Nile River, the lifeline of Egypt, turning its water to blood. The fish died and the Egyptians could not drink from the river. Each plague confronted the false gods of Egypt and demonstrated that the Lord alone rules over creation.
"He raised his staff in the presence of Pharaoh and his officials and struck the water of the Nile, and all the water was changed into blood."
— Exodus 7:20
Today's Devotion
✦Egypt worshiped the Nile. It watered their crops, fed their families, and anchored their economy. So when God confronted Pharaoh, He began by touching the thing Egypt trusted most.
God still lovingly confronts our substitutes. Anything we lean on as ultimate — success, savings, approval, even family — can quietly take His place. Sometimes He lets those rivers fail, not to hurt us, but to redirect our thirst to the only water that satisfies.
Ask yourself honestly today: if this one thing dried up, would my faith survive it? Let the answer guide your prayers.
