On what Jewish feast day did the Holy Spirit come upon the believers in Acts 2?

The Answer
Fifty days after Passover, on the feast of Pentecost, the believers were gathered together when a sound like a violent wind filled the house and what seemed to be tongues of fire rested on each of them. Filled with the Holy Spirit, they spoke in other languages, and Jews from every nation heard the wonders of God in their own tongues. Peter preached, and about three thousand people were added to the church that day.
"All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them."
— Acts 2:4
Today's Devotion
✦Before Pentecost, the disciples were waiting behind closed doors. After Pentecost, they were preaching in the streets. The difference was not more training, more courage, or more time — it was the Holy Spirit.
Jesus had told them not to attempt the mission in their own strength: 'Stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.' The waiting was not wasted time. It was the posture of dependence.
We often try to live the Christian life on willpower and burn out quickly. But the same Spirit who filled that room is given to every believer. Today, before you push harder, pause and ask to be filled. God's work, done in God's strength, carries God's results.
