How many times did Peter deny knowing Jesus before the rooster crowed?

The Answer
At the Last Supper, Peter boldly declared he was ready to go with Jesus to prison and to death. Jesus told him that before the rooster crowed, Peter would deny Him three times — and in the high priest's courtyard that very night, Peter did exactly that. After the third denial, the rooster crowed, Jesus looked at Peter, and Peter went outside and wept bitterly.
"The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word the Lord had spoken to him: 'Before the rooster crows today, you will disown me three times.'"
— Luke 22:61
Today's Devotion
✦Peter's failure was public, painful, and predicted. Yet it was not the end of his story. After the resurrection, Jesus met Peter on a beach and asked him three times, 'Do you love me?' — one question for each denial — and three times recommissioned him: 'Feed my sheep.'
God's grace does not merely forgive our failures; it restores our calling. Peter the denier became Peter the preacher of Pentecost, the rock of the early church.
If you are living under the shadow of a failure — something you said, something you did, someone you let down — remember that Jesus specializes in restoration. Your worst moment does not get the final word. His grace does.
