The Answer
When the disciples saw Jesus walking on the sea during a storm, they were terrified, thinking He was a ghost. Peter called out, 'Lord, if it's you, tell me to come to you on the water.' Jesus said, 'Come,' and Peter walked on the water toward Him — until he saw the wind, became afraid, and began to sink. Jesus immediately reached out His hand and caught him.
"'Come,' he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus."
— Matthew 14:29
Today's Devotion
✦We often remember this story for Peter's sinking, but do not miss the astonishing part: he walked on water. Eleven disciples stayed in the boat. One stepped out — and for a few glorious moments, he did the impossible because his eyes were on Jesus.
Yes, Peter faltered when he focused on the wind and waves. But notice how quickly Jesus responded: immediately He reached out His hand. There was no lecture first, no delay. Rescue came before rebuke.
What boat is God calling you out of today? Fear of failure keeps many of us seated. But the One who calls you is the same One who catches you. It is always safer on the water with Jesus than in the boat without Him.
